Il termine sinestesia deriva dal greco syn-aisthanestai, ed in particolare dall'unione di syn, "insieme" e aisthánestai, "percepire" difatti si tratta della percezione simultanea di più sensazioni legate ad un unico stimolo sensoriale. In questo saggio si affronta la questione a partire da un quesito filosofico: quanto un senso sia in grado di influenzarne un altro. Si approfondirà come la sinestesia sia stata presente all'interno della letteratura, intesa come figura retorica che accosta parole provenienti da ambiti sensoriali diversi. Si vedrà come la percezione del colore sia cambiata nel corso dei secoli e di come essa funzioni a livello fisiologico. Verrà preso in esame l'impatto che le neuroscienze e gli studi sviluppatisi più di recente stanno avendo sulla conoscenza della sinestesia, e di come questo apra un nuovo capitolo sullo studio della stessa. Infine si vedrà come nell'arco della storia ci siano stati diversi artisti sinesteti tra i quali i più noti sono i russi Kandinskij e Skrjabin, e di come questa abilità abbia influito sul loro lavoro, sia a livello teorico che artistico/musicale.

Asquini, Giovanni: - Giovanni Asquini nasce a Udine nel 1991; si avvicina al mondo della musica seguendo lezioni private di pianoforte fino alla scuola media. Nel 2009 segue il corso per diventare Ableton "user certificate". Nel 2010 consegue il diploma di maturità presso il Liceo Classico "J. Stellini" di Udine. Dopo una breve esperienza universitaria, si iscrive al corso di musica elettronica del Conservatorio Tartini di Trieste. Dopo il primo anno, intraprende un percorso di formazione professionale in pasticceria, facendo esperienza nel mondo del lavoro, con particolare attenzione al lato artistico-creativo della professione. Frequenta nel 2020 un corso di modellazione 3d e video animazione finalizzata al marketing, quindi decide di reiscriversi al Conservatorio di Trieste dove a luglio 2023 consegue il diploma accademico di I livello in musica elettronica con una tesi sulla sinestesia.
