In 1980's the author's life began to take a toll on her- work, family, social pressures- began pulling her in different directions. During those times the author relied heavily on her faith in Shiva and other gods to give her strength. She surrendered her pain and sorrows to Him, and her prayers took the form of heartfelt, passionate poems.

Sornanayaki ChellamPillai was born in 1950 in Tirunelveli Tamil Nadu, as the second oldest of five children. At the age of 11, Sorna's mother passed away and she began to live with her father's aunt until the age of 18. Her father, a well-respected school teacher, ensured that she received an education until then, something not so common in those times. As she got older she took on the responsibility of providing for her family and thus, despite her dreams of continuing her education, she took to jobs instead. In the Winter of 1969, she moved to Chennai and began working at the City Civil Court/ High Court in Chennai. Not only was it her first time in a big city but she also lived there by herself in a women's hostel- again, an uncommon f¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬eat for a woman in the 1970s. Two years later she was married and later had three children- but she continued to work throughout her life. Having a full-time job as well taking care of a family of five is no small endeavour and the author's success in life is a

testament to her strength, discipline, spirit and ultimately, her faith.
