This well researched story is based on real people that lived during this time and events that took place from the end of the Civil War up to the turn of the century. The main character, John T. Rankin, grew up around the movers and shakers, the heroes and leaders in Fayette, County, Texas, but it was his attraction to Austin and all the power and glory that it represented that called him to his destiny. John's past left him insecure and searching for a personal definition of justice through the law while trying to stay on the path of righteousness. His journey puts him directly on a collision course with those that already have their own ideas of justice and the law can go along or get out of the way. There is no other western novel like it.
