Elizabeth Kübler-Ross (Zurich, 1926 - Scottsdale, Arizona, 2004) estudió medicina y psiquiatría y se especializó en estudios sobre la muerte y los cuidados paliativos. La necesidad de abordar científicamente qué experimentaban los moribundos surgió, según su propio testimonio, en su juventud, cuando tomó la decisión de participar como voluntaria, junto a equipos norteamericanos, en la recuperación del campo de concentración de Meidaneck, Polonia. Este aprendizaje la llevó a investigar la experiencia final de la vida y a trabajar, durante más de veinticinco años, en las secciones de enfermos terminales de diversos hospitales de Estados Unidos. Su infatigable labor ha sido reconocida y aclamada en todo el mundo, no sólo con veintitrés doctorados honoríficos, sino también con el beneplácito de millones de lectores. Kübler-Ross fue nombrada una de las mentes más brillantes del siglo XX por la revista Time y muchos la consideran una de las mujeres más heroicas e influyentes de todos los tiempos. Elizabeth Kübler-Ross (Zurich, 1926 - Scottsdale, Arizona, 2004) studied medicine and psychiatry and specialized in studies on death and palliative care. The need to scientifically address what the dying experienced arose, according to her own testimony, in her youth, when she decided to volunteer with American teams in the recovery of the Meidaneck concentration camp in Poland. This learning led her to investigate the final experience of life and to work for more than twenty-five years in the terminal illness wards of various hospitals in the United States. Her tireless work has been recognized and acclaimed worldwide, not only with twenty-three honorary doctorates, but also with the approval of millions of readers. Kübler-Ross was named one of the brightest minds of the twentieth century by Time magazine, and many consider her one of the most heroic and influential women of all time. She is the author of about twenty books, which have been translated into twenty-seven languages.
