La pièce de Sophocle, OEdipe roi, expose-t-elle la grandeur intellectuelle de l'homme découvrant la misère de son destin ? Un oracle annonce-t-il ce qui sera ? L'homme est-il le jouet de la volonté divine ? Ou bien OEdipe ne serait-il pas plutôt victime d'un excès de confiance en sa compétence ?
Après un démontage de l'interprétation conventionnelle de la tragédie, à l'appui de ce démontage, l'auteur est conduit à analyser, dans la relation de Freud à une patiente, l'intervention d'un mécanisme analogue à celui qui a causé la perte du roi de Thèbes. La seconde partie de l'ouvrage n'est pas une critique de la psychanalyse: elle serait plutôt un retournement, sur Freud, de sa méthode analytique, retournement qui trouve dans l'oeuvre de Sophocle son ressort herméneutique. Une constante réflexion sur les paramètres de la communication verbale sert de fil rouge de l'argumentation.

About The Author

L'auteur: Après avoir obtenu une maîtrise en philosophie à la faculté des lettres de Lyon, André Sauge entre dans l'enseignement secondaire genevois. En 1991, il soutient une thèse sur la notion d'historié à la Faculté des Lettres de Genève. Dès lors il a publié chez Peter Lang un ouvrage sur le parfait grec, Les degrés du verbe (2000), et une triple recherche sur la langue de l'épopée et de l'histoire: De l'épopée à l'histoire (1992), « L'Iliade », poème athénien de l'époque de Solon (2000) et Iliade: langue, récit, écriture (2007).
