Los efectos de esta elección en los comportamientos individuales y colectivos (i.e., en busca de metas versus ideales), y las implicaciones para su administración, son profundamente diferentes. La revisión de literatura sobre proyectos realizados a lo largo del mundo correlaciona la eficacia de los proyectos (i.e., el éxito en el cumplimiento de los objetivos del proyecto y el mantenimiento de los resultados deseados) y la ineficacia de los proyectos (i.e., el incumplimiento de los objetivos del proyecto y el mantenimiento de los resultados deseados, la mala asignación de recursos y externalidades negativas ) con estructuras organizacionales específicas de los proyectos.
