Dabei geht es um die Fragen, was die Globalisierung vorantreibt, welche Wege die Globalisierung beschreitet und welche Auswirkungen sie auf die Gesellschaft, Kultur und Politik hat. Daher ist die Diskussion um die Globalisierung sehr umstritten und es kann keine eindeutige Aussage über die Globalisierung getroffen werden. Die Auswirkungen der Globalisierung werden daher sehr unterschiedlich aufgefasst und wahrgenommen. Die Globalisierung kann als Auslöser für Arbeitslosigkeit, soziale Ungerechtigkeit und die wachsende Schere zwischen Arm und Reich gesehen werden. Sozusagen bildet die Globalisierung den Ursprung für alle negativen Entwicklungen. Auf der anderen Seite kann die Globalisierung allerdings ganz gegenteilig gesehen werden. Die Globalisierung ist der Motor der positiven weltwirtschaftlichen und menschlichen Entwicklungen. Sie bildet den Grund, warum Know-How und Fortschritt jedem Menschen zu Gute kommen können und keine nationalen Grenzen kennen. Diese verschiedenen Meinungen lassen sich über die ganze Bandbreite zwischen Positivem und Negativem verteilen. Die folgende Definition soll daher einen kurzen Einblick in die Begriffsklärung der Globalisierung aufzeigen. Dabei geht es vor allem um den geschichtlichen Hintergrund und die Gegebenheiten der Globalisierung, um für diese Arbeit einen gemeinsamen Ausgangspunkt zu gestalten.
