Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2007 im Fachbereich Soziologie - Politische Soziologie, Majoritäten, Minoritäten, Note: 1,3, Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster (Soziologie), Veranstaltung: Agrarreform und soziale Bewegungen in Lateinamerika, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Wie in vielen Staaten Lateinamerikas ist Demokratie in Mexiko nicht repräsentativ im ursprünglichen Sinne zu verstehen, sondern als formale Angelegenheit, welche durch Parteien, diverse Personen und wirtschaftliche Kräfte ihrer eigentlichen Verantwortung entzogen wird- zum Leidtragen eines Gro teils der mexikanischen Bevölkerung. Neben dem Ausschluss von politischen Partizipations- möglichkeiten ist der Alltag der ländlichen, meist indigenen Bevölkerung vor allem im Bundesstaat Chiapas auch von sozialen Benachteiligungen, ökonomischer Ausbeutung, Mängeln im Bildungsbereich und dem Gesundheitswesen geprägt. Diese Welt der Desillusionierung und Hoffnungslosigkeit gab den Nährboden für viele Aufstände von Bauern, sozialen Bewegungen und auch der Rebellion der Zapatisten- dem Ejército Zapatista de Liberación Nacional- kurz EZLN. Zum Jahreswechsel 1994 wagten sie- gerade an dem Tag, an dem Mexiko dem Nordamerikanischen Freihandelsabkommen NAFTA beitreten wollte- in San Cristóbal de las Casas den Aufschrei: Mit ihrem Ya basta! gelang es ihnen, dass die Weltöffentlichkeit den Blick auf sie, die indigene Bevölkerung, und ihre Forderungen- antistaatliche und liberitäre Prinzipien- wie Freiheit, Gerechtigkeit und dem Postulat nach kommunaler Autonomie durch eine Demokratisierung von Unten, richtete. Die indigenen Ethnien Mexikos agieren seit dem Aufstand landesweit als selbstbewusste Subjekte und streiten für ihre Interessen. Durch das Bewusstsein einer kollektive Identität und dem gleichzeitigen Betonen der Andersartigkeit und Vielfalt der indigenen Kulturen auf Toleranz und Anerkennung der Würde anderer basierend, etablierte sich der Zapatismus als eine Möglichkeit einer alternativen Gesellschaftsform
