Die vorliegende Studie stellt Ergebnisse des Forschungsprojektes "Subjektive Handlungskompetenzen und soziales Handeln Jugendlicher" dar. Beabsiehtigt war mit diesem Projekt nieht nor, einen Beitrag zor sozial- wissenschaftlichen Jugenddiskussion zu leisten. Vielmehr so lIte ein Wissen verftigbar gemacht werden, das auch ftir jene von Interesse ist, die mit Ju- gendlichen in Kontexten der politischen und padagogischen Praxis befaBt sind. Denn die Forschungsarbeit war auch dorch den Versuch motiviert zu verstehen, weshalb manche Jugendliehe von Angeboten der politischen Bil- dung und der beruflichen Weiterqualifizierung nieht oder nor schwer er- reieht werden konnen. DaB der vorliegende, auch an politische und padagogische Praktiker adressierte Text dem Leser gleiehwohl zumutet, sieh auf relativ abstrakte theoretische Gedankengange und sozialwissenschaftliche Begriffliehkeiten emzulassen, resultiert nicht nor aus der grundsatzlichen Schwierigkeit, wis- senschaftliehe Gedankengange verstiindlich darzustellen, ohne auf notwen- dige Differenzierungen zu verziehten. Diesem Sachverhalt liegt auch die ti'berzeugung zugrunde, da6 es auBerordentlich problematisch ist, wissen- schaftliehe Aussagen tiber "die Jugend" aus den theoretischen und methodi- schen Zusammenhangen herauszulosen, in denen sie entwiekelt worden: Wer sich als Praktiker mit wissenschaftliehen Untersuchungen tiber "die Jugend" befassen will, kann auf eine Auseinandersetzung mit Theorien und Methoden der Jugendforschung nieht verziehten. Denn andernfalls besteht die Gefahr, da6 Forschungsergebnisse unreflektiert aufgegriffen und zor bloBen Bestatigung vorwissenschaftlieher Erfahrungen und Vorurteile verwendet werden.
