Und warum gehen so wenige Kinder aus Arbeiterfamilien auf das Gymnasium und Kinder aus Akademikerfamilien eher dorthin? Allgemein betrachtet könnte man sagen, Manager/innen haben mehr Verantwortung, Frauen wollen lieber bei ihren Kindern sein, Architekten/innen müssen sich Kompetenzen aneignen und Kinder aus Akademikerfamilien haben mehr Wissen als andere. Aber ist das wirklich so? Warum gibt es dann zum Beispiel auch verantwortungslose Manager/innen oder kinderlose Frauen usw.? Drei grundlegende Fragen tauchen auf: 1. Warum gibt es Unterschiede zwischen sozialen Gruppen? 2. Sind diese Unterschiede regelmä ig mit Vor- und Nachteilen (in Bezug auf soziale Ungleichheit) verbunden? 3. Sind diese Vor- und Nachteile dauerhaft vorhanden? Und wenn ja, warum? (vgl. Sloga, Berger und Powell, 2009, S. 11). Im Rahmen dieser Arbeit sollen folgende Fragen beantwortet werden: Sind soziale Ungleichheiten in Gesellschaften sozial konstruiert oder steckt da etwa mehr dahinter? Sind soziale Ungleichheiten in Gesellschaften wirklich notwendig damit sie weiterhin bestehen können? Zur Beantwortung der Fragen soll zunächst geklärt werden, was soziale Ungleichheit ist und wann wir von sozialer Ungleichheit sprechen. Als nächstes werden die Strukturebenen von sozialer Ungleichheit (Hradil) sowie Theorien und Formen von sozialer Ungleichheit betrachtet. Einige klassische theoretische Perspektiven sowie neuere Theorien sollen herangezogen werden, um der Frage nachzugehen ob soziale Ungleichheit notwendig oder konstruiert ist.
