Soziale Ungleichheit ist ein 'gesellschaftlicher Zustand, in dem die Zugangschancen zu wichtigen Sozialbereichen (z.B. Bildung und Ausbildung, Beruf usw.) für einzelne Personen oder Sozialgruppen erschwert ist und die ungleiche Verteilung von ökonomischen und sonstigen Ressourcen, von sozialen Positionen und Rängen als ein soziales Problem angesehen wird.' (Schäfers 2000: 399) In der Star Trek Episode herrschen unter dem Volk der Dinaali ungleiche Zugangschancen im Bereich der Bildung und Beruf, zudem hängt das Ausma der medizinischen Versorgung vom jeweiligen Berufsstatus ab. In dieser Arbeit wollen wir einerseits einen der Ausgangspunkte sozialer Ungleichheiten betrachten: die soziale Macht. Viele Soziologen haben sich bereits mit Machtphänomenen beschäftigt. Anhand der Episode können wir deren Forschung belegen indem wir näher auf den Machtbegriff eingehen und dessen Formen untersuchen. Andererseits widmen wir uns im zweiten Teil, passend zu den Geschehnissen der Episode, mit dem Thema der sozialen Ungleichheit und dessen Auswirkungen auf die Gesundheit. Verschiedene Studien belegen, dass es hinsichtlich der Mortalität und Morbidität unterschiede bezüglich des sozialen Status gibt. Am Ende der Folge kommt es zum Ansto einer Revolution, daher gehen wir abschlie end in einem kurzen Exkurs näher auf den Klassenkampf ein.
