Die strukturelle Evolution der Mitgliedschaftssysteme wird mit der Analyse der Strukturformen gesellschaftlicher Kommunikation und der Medien der gesellschaftlichen Mitgliedschaft und Kommunikation abgestimmt. Die Strukturformen des Wirtschafts-, Rechts-, Wissenschafts-, Religions-, Kunst- sowie des politischen Systems werden einer mitgliedschaftstheoretischen Analyse zugeführt. Berücksichtigt werden dabei eine Reinterpretation der Medien der Commitments und der Gefühle. Für die soziologische Theorie der Gegenwartsgesellschaft stellt sich der Problembezug, das Forschungsprogramm der "Multiple Modernities und Mitgliedschaftsordnung" mit der Analyse von Globalisierung abzustimmen. Sie geht davon aus, dass es keine Globale Moderne gibt.
Das Ziel ist eine Neufassung der Theorie sozialer Integration, der sozialen Bewegungen und der sozialen Ordnung jenseits von Liberalismus, National- und Sozialstaat, die von einem Wohlstandspluralismus und einem hybriden Multikulturalismus auszugehen hat.
