Als Ausgangspunkt und Korpus dieser Arbeit dienen fünf in der Zeitschrift El País erschienene Artikel, aus denen die Suffigierungen entnommen werden. Die Artikel sind inhaltlich alle dem Diskurs rund um die Coronaviruskrise zuzuordnen. Aufgrund der entstandenen Pandemie ist dieser Diskurs in den letzten eineinhalb Jahren in den Medien immer präsenter geworden. Mit dieser inhaltlichen Eingrenzung lässt sich die Kategorisierung und Klassifizierung der Suffigierungen anschaulich und aussagekräftig gestalten. Die menschliche Sprache wird von vielen Faktoren, wie beispielsweise dem demografischen Wandel, dem technologischen Fortschritt oder neu aufkommenden Diskursen beeinflusst und kann daher langfristig betrachtet als dynamischer Analysegegenstand behandelt werden. Die Forschung sollte sich demnach ständig an den Status Quo einer Sprachgemeinschaft anpassen. In diesem Zusammenhang kommt der Wortbildung innerhalb der Linguistik eine bedeutende Rolle zu, denn die Wortbildung beschäftigt sich mit der Frage, "[...] wie man von gegebenen Wörtern zu neuen Wörtern kommt." Hierzu können eine Reihe von Wortbildungsverfahren genannt werden, von welchen im Rahmen der vorliegenden Arbeit die Suffigierung, welche "[...] die Anfügung eines Suffixes an eine sprachliche Form [meint]", im Vordergrund steht.
