In dem vorliegenden Band sind die Beitrage der 24. Arbeitstagung des Deutschen Kollegiums fUr Psychosomatische Medizin im Marz 1986 in Schomberg wiederge- geben. In dem gewahlten Leitthema "Spezialisierung und Integration in Psychoso- matik und Psychotherapie" solI die Vielfalt unseres Fachgebietes zum Ausdruck kommen, welche sich ausbreitet zwischen spezialisierten Subdisziplinen und inte- grativen Konzepten. Das dialektische Spannungsfeld zwischen beiden Polen ist meiner Meinung nach konstitutiv fUr das Fach der Psychosomatik. Spezialisierung und Integration sind keine Altemativen, sondem die in Subdisziplinen gewonne- nen Forschungserkenntnisse Hefem die argumentative Basis, die Integration zum Wohle des Patienten voranzutreiben. Ein Ausschnitt zu dem Vorwort der 1939 gegrundeten Zeitschrift "Psychosomatic Medicine" von dem Herausgeber-Team, darunter solchen Pionieren wie Franz Alexander und Flanders Dunbar, lautet wie folgt: "Es wird mit Nachdruck die These vertreten, daB es keine logische Unter- scheidung zwischen Leib und Seele, Geistigem und Korperlichem gibt. Es wird angenommen, daB die komplexe Neurophysiologie von Stimmung, Trieb und Intel- lekt sich von der iibrigen Physiologie nur im Komplexitatsgrad unterscheidet, aber nicht in der Qualitat. Und wiederum Einteilungen von medizinischen Disziplinen in Physiologie, Neurologie, Innerer Medizin, Psychiatrie und Psychologie mogen geeignet sein fUr akademischen Gebrauch, aber biologisch und philosophisch haben diese Unterscheidungen keine Giiltigkeit.
