Schwarzel, a native of Rodi, Pennsylvania, spent his formative years in the small town of Murrysville, where he fine-tuned his work ethic through various jobs including landscaping, auto body work, and even cooking burgers. A lover of sports, he played football, basketball, and tennis during his high school years, setting a school record in tennis that still stands. His interests include hunting, fishing, camping, skydiving, and motorcycle building. In 1972, he married his love, Polly Shaffer, and in 1976, he bought a bowling lane, merging his passion for sports with his business acumen. Schwarzel's rich life experiences inform his book, Splits and Giggles.
