Jahrhundert, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Diese Arbeit untersucht, was Spracharbeit ist und wer sie betrieben hat. Dazu wird die wichtigste Sprachgesellschaft des 17. Jahrhunderts vorgestellt, die 'Fruchtbringende Gesellschaft'. Genauer werden die Lebensläufe von Justus Georg Schottelius und Georg Philipp Harsdörffer vorgestellt. Danach wird ein Briefwechsel der 'Fruchtbringenden Gesellschaft' zu den "Frauenzimmer‐ Gesprächsspielen" analysiert. Hierbei liegt der Fokus darauf, wie durch Metaphern und andere rhetorische Mittel die Spracharbeit in den Briefen verwirklicht wird. Die verschiedenen Faktoren, die die Spracharbeit ausmachte, kann man in den Briefen sehr gut aufzeigen und herausarbeiten. Spracharbeit im 17. Jahrhundert bezieht sich auf ganz verschiedene Aspekte der Sprache. Insbesondere wird eine ontologische Motiviertheit der sprachlichen Zeichen angenommen. Dies bedeutet, dass die sprachlichen Zeichen einen direkten Bezug zur Wirklichkeit haben. Vor allem Lautmalerei ist ein rhetorisches Mittel, in dem sich die Motiviertheit der Zeichen ganz offen zeigt. Hier ist die Lautstruktur des Wortes in direkter Verbindung mit dem zu bezeichnenden Gegenstand (z.B. Kuckuck, knacken, etc.). Es gilt eine prinzipielle Rückführbarkeit der Sprachzeichen auf Naturlaute. Au erdem wird das Deutsche immer wieder, auch durch sein fortgeschrittenes Alter, mit dem Hebräischen verglichen, um ihm so mehr Wichtigkeit neben anderen Sprachen zu verleihen. Man will die deutsche Sprache so gesellschaftsfähiger machen und ihr mehr Prestige verleihen. Es wird eine sehr enge Verbindung zwischen Sprache und Verhaltensnormen angenommen. Schottelius, ein Mitglied der 'Fruchtbringenden Gesellschaft', ging sogar davon aus, dass sich Änderungen des Verhaltens eines Volkes immer auf Sprachveränderungen
