Eine tragende Rolle kommt dabei den Sprachgesellschaften des 17. Jahrhunderts zu, die es sich zur Aufgabe gemacht hatten, die in Ansehen und Ursprünglichkeit beeinträchtigte deutsche Sprache, wieder zu reinigen, diese zu erhalten und vor allem gegenüber anderen Volkssprachen zu etablieren. Dabei gilt es der "Fruchtbringenden Gesellschaft", welche gesellschaftlich und im Hinblick auf das bedeutende Wirken Ihrer Mitglieder, besondere Aufmerksamkeit zu schenken. So schrieb Georg Neumark, dass die Muttersprache "Uns ganz rein in der ersten Milch / gleichsam eingeträufelt/ nachmals aber durch fremdes Wortgepräg/ wässerig und versalzen worden". Somit war es Aufgabe der Sprachgesellschaften, die deutsche Sprache wieder ihrer ursprünglichen "und angebohren Teutschen Reinlichkeit" zurückzugeben und sie "von fremd-drückenden Sprachjochen" zu befreien. Im Verlauf dieser Arbeit soll das Streben der Sprachgesellschaften im Allgemeinen und das Wirken der Fruchtbringenden Gesellschaft im Besonderen dargestellt und ihr historischer und kultureller Kontext näher beleuchtet werden.
