Spring House, the first book of the Westward Sagas series tells the story of the lives of Scots-Irish families struggling to find happiness on the new frontier. This story begins in North Carolina in 1762 and paints a vivid picture of colonial life in the backwoods of the North State.

The Mitchells just wanted to be left alone to farm their land, practice their faith, and raise their family. But their response to the extraordinary circumstances of frontier life, politics, and war made heroes of these ordinary citizens. Adam Mitchell fought the British, while his mother, wife, and children endured deprivation and danger on the family farm in the midst of the battle. Their home was destroyed by British troops in the Battle of Guilford Courthouse, and their cornfields were turned into fields of death.

The story of Adam's two loves-his first wife Jennett who died bearing their son and his second wife Elizabeth who bore him twelve more children-creates the human backdrop to the historical events of Revolutionary War times.

National Indie Excellence 2007 Books Awards announced that Spring House was a finalist in the Historical Fiction category.

Bowles, David A.: - David A. Bowles is a fifth-generation Austinite. Both parents' families were early Travis County pioneers. His Great-grandmother, Elnora Van Cleve, is recorded as the first birth in Austin, Texas during the days of the Republic. He named his dog Becka after Rebeckah Mitchell-Smith, his Great-great-grandmother, matriarch of the family. The author and Becka travel extensively, telling and writing the stories of the Westward Sagas. David grew up listening to the stories of his ancestors told by his elders. Their stories so fascinated him that he became a professional storyteller, spinning tales through the Westward Sagas as well as the spoken word.
