Im Jahr 2025 sollen nach Hochrechnungen der UN mehr als 20 Megastädte auf der Welt mit über 10 Millionen Einwohnern existieren (Brandt 2007). Nach Angaben des Statistischen Bundesamtes lebte in Deutschland im Jahr 2004 schon jeder dritte Mensch in einer Stadt mit einer Grö enordnung von 100.000 Einwohnern. Aufgrund der Tatsache, dass es immer mehr Menschen aus den unterschiedlichsten Gründen in die Ballungsräume der Erde zieht, nehmen die städtischen Räume einen weltweit immer grö er werdenden Stellenwert ein. Unweigerlich mit der Urbanisierung verbunden, ist der Eingriff des Menschen in die Natur. Diese Veränderung der natürlichen Landschaft hat wiederum eine Veränderung des lokalen Klimas zur Folge. Die Auswirkungen dieses Stadtklimas auf immer mehr Menschen liefern einen Grund dafür, dass die Veränderungen des lokalen Klimas in der Vergangenheit, Gegenwart und Zukunft Gegenstand intensiver Forschung waren, sind und sein werden. Die folgende Ausarbeitung befasst sich mit dem Thema Stadtklima und dessen Ursachen. Nachdem im Anschluss an die Einleitung im zweiten Kapitel eine Definition des Begriffs Stadtklima gegeben wird, folgt im dritten Kapitel eine Betrachtung der historischen Entwicklung der wissenschaftlichen Erforschung des Stadtklimas. Anschlie end werden im vierten Kapitel die Faktoren erläutert, die ma geblich an der Entstehung des Stadtklimas beteiligt sind. Hier wird näher auf die Struktur und Beschaffenheit urbaner Oberflächen, auf anthropogene Wärmestromdichten und auf Emissionen von Luftverunreinigungen eingegangen. Nachdem die Ursachen herausgestellt wurden, befasst sich das fünfte Kapitel dann mit den Charakteristika des urbanen Klimas im V
