Die vorliegende Arbeit ist das Ergebnis einer sechsmonatigen Unter- suchung, die vom Wissenschaftsministerium des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen gefördert wurde. Dafür möchte ich der Ministerin, Frau Anke Brunn, meinen tiefempfundenen Dank aussprechen. Die ThemensteIlung 'Standardisierung internationaler afrikanischer Verkehrssprachen' wurde von Herrn Prof. Dr. Bernd Heine formuliert, der als erster afrikanische Verkehrssprachen umfassend wissenschaftlich untersucht hat und der somit als einer der Begründer der afrikanistischen Soziolinguistik gelten kann. Seine soziolinguistischen Arbeiten bilden einen Grundstock für die vorliegende Untersuchung. Wenngleich diese Arbeit als Literaturarbeit angelegt ist, konnten in be- grenztem Umfang Erkenntnisse eigener früherer Feldforschungen, vor allem in Za'lre und in der Zentralafrikanischen Republik, eingebracht werden. Diese Feldforschungen wurden durch finanzielle Unterstützung der Graduierten- förderung der Universität zu Köln bzw. durch ein Reisestipendium der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft ermöglicht. Den beiden Institutionen bin ich dafür zu aufrichtigem Dank verpflichtet. Die Beobachtungen zum mauritianischen Kreol konnte ich in Mauritius e während und nach der Teilnahme am 7 Co/loque International des Etudes Creoles im September 1992 machen. Die Konferenzteilnahme wurde durch eine Beihilfe der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft ermöglicht, der ich hiermit meinen herzlichen Dank aussprechen möchte.
