Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2001 im Fachbereich Germanistik - Neuere Deutsche Literatur, Note: 1,0, Universität Hamburg (Germanisches Institut), Veranstaltung: HS Kulturtypen um 1900, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Noch vor drei ig Jahren, will man der damaligen Einschätzung von Manfred Durzak glauben schenken, war der Kampf um den Platz im Kanon der deutschsprachigen Literatur für die Gedichte Stefan Georges unentschieden. Dieses Bild scheint sich heute gewandelt zu haben. Die Lektüre der George-Gedichte hat ihren Platz im Deutschunterricht erhalten, die Verlage bieten Auswahlsammlungen der Gedichte an, in zahlreichen Anthologien sind sie ebenfalls enthalten und einschlägige 'Leselisten' geben Hinweise auf einzelne Bände. Bei genauerer Betrachtung der ausgewählten Gedichte ergibt sich jedoch ein differenzierteres Bild. Deutlich überrepräsentiert sind die Gedichte, die in scheinbarer Tradition an die "deutsche Innerlichkeitslyrik und Natursymbolik" anknüpfen. Hinzu kommt, dass zahlreiche Gedichte aus ihrem ursprünglichen zyklischen Zusammenhang isoliert werden und sich dadurch ganz neue, häufig unverfängliche und reduzierte Deutungsmöglichkeiten ergeben. Es scheint also, als sei ein kleiner Teil der Gedichte Georges kanonisiert worden, während der übrige Teil im öffentlichen 'Leseraum' kaum wahrgenommen wird. Der erwähnte übrige Teil jedoch beschäftigt im verstärkten Ma e den fachwissenschaftlichen Diskurs. Die eigentümliche Mischung aus 'archaischem' Stil, Mythisierung, Antimodernismus, Elementen der Gewalt und sublimer Sexualität bot und bietet Freiraum für diverse Fragestellungen, aber auch für ideologische Grabenkämpfe. Bestes Beispiel hierfür stellt der 1892 entstandende Gedichtzyklus "Algabal" dar, von dem Jens Malte Fischer behauptet, es sei Georges "meistinterpretiertes Werk" .
