Die Schwierigkeiten liegen dabei vielmals in der Unubersichtlichkeit ver- schiedener metallurgischer Verfahren. Ahnlichen Problemen ist auch der Studierende der Metallurgie ausge- setzt, der in moglichst kurzer Zeit einen weitgehenden Einblick in die metallurgischen Prozesse im allgemeinen, wie auch im speziellen, erhalten soIl. Durch die zunehmende Fiille der Kenntnisse nehmen diese Schwierig- keiten laufend zu. Der Dozent der Metallurgie ist deshalb vor die Frage gesteIlt, auf welche Art und Weise er seine Erorterungen vermitteln soIl. Die erste Frage, die sich dabei stellt, ist, ob man sich mehr auf die Vermittlung der Grund- lagen oder der speziellen Kenntnisse konzentrieren soIl. Die Fiille des Stofi'es fiihrt zwangslaufig immer starker vom Speziellen zu den Grund- lagen. Die Erfahrung zeigt aber, daB die Grundlagen allein auch nicht das Vorteilhafteste darstellen. Am giinstigsten ist die Behandlung der Grundlagen und ihre Anwendung in der Praxis. Auf diese Art erhiilt der junge Horer nicht nur das theoretische Wissen, sondern auch das Konnen, d. h. die Fahigkeit, sein Wissen bei seiner spiiteren Tiitigkeit zweck- miiBig anwenden zu konnen. Zu ahnlichen Empfehlungen sind kurzlich auch die Professoren der Mathematik im Rahmen der OECE gekommen. Diese Grundwissenschaft solI fur die Ingenieure vor allem in der Anwen- dung der Mathematik ihre Hauptbetonung erhalten.
