Stories for Youth: Forty-Five Original Non-Fiction Essays with Study Guides is intended for use by teachers working with youth of middle and high school age. A wide range of reading levels is reflected in the essays, as are a variety of topics and tones in the mostly brief stories. Loras Kotinek, a Wisconsin Correctional Teacher of the Year, has experiences that qualify him to write about history, economics biography, psychology, study skills, sports, life skills and English. His degrees in the culinary arts support seven essays on cooking. Ten years teaching high school history is motivation for writing a five-part series on the history of Western Civilization, which contrasts our past with that of the non-Western world. Some essays are serious, others are funny and humorous, but all attempt to open new horizons for youthful readers.
