This publication, "Stories of Transformation," is just one of the many projects Lifers Inc. PA Public Safety Initiative (PSI) has presented over decades. In December 2020, during the height of the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic, Lifers Inc. was somehow able to organize an essay contest, encouraging incarcerated individuals to share their personal experiences and relationships with lifers.

Within the essays, a vivid portrait emerges of the multifaceted roles lifers play in the lives of their fellow residents. They become mentors, friends, surrogate fathers, uncles, brothers, teachers, nurses, educators, and group leaders. For newcomers to the prison system, lifers extend a helping hand and provide valuable guidance, easing the adjustment to prison life. With wisdom gained from experience, they offer advice on various topics, from law and religion to politics and family relations.

These essays invite readers to witness lifers' profound impact on their fellow inmates, offering a glimmer of hope and inspiring a deeper understanding of the human potential for transformation, even in the most challenging circumstances.
