Eine Region ist wirtschaftswissenschaftlich betrachtet, ein zusammenhängendes geographisches Gebiet, von mittlerer Grö enordnung zwischen aggregierten Volkswirtschaften und disaggregierten Raumpunkten. Betrachtet man den die Regio Bodensee, als eine von vielen Europaregionen innerhalb des europäischen Kontinents, so wird man dieses Definitionsmuster auch hier feststellen können. Zur näheren Betrachtung ist jedoch die Unterdefinition der "Euregio" notwendig. Unter Euregio versteht man die "Bezeichnung für grenzüberschreitende Initiativen zur Zusammenarbeit kommunaler Körperschaften in Grenzregionen. Schwerpunkte liegen im wirtschaftlichen, sozialen und kulturellen Bereich. " Es ist essentiell, dass die beteiligten Regionen alle der EU angehören. Vielmehr ist es Bedingung, dass mindestens eine der Regionen mit Stimmrecht in Brüssel vertreten ist. Am Beispiel Regio Bodensee wird mit der Schweiz schnell deutlich, dass auch EU Au engrenzen in der EU bestehen. Weitere Beispiele sind in Osteuropa zu finden. Die Erste Region, welche sich "EUREGIO" nannte ist die niederländische EUREGIO mit Sitz in Gronau (NL). Ich möchte näher auf das Gebiet der Euregio Bodensee eingehen, dass schon 1972 durch die IBK zusammengeschlossen wurde. Die Internationale Bodenseekonferenz wurde auf Initiative des damaligen baden- württembergischen Ministerpräsidenten Hans Filbinger gegründet und mit Ihr eine Grundlage geschaffen, die Bodenseeanrainerländer und -kantone zu vereinen.
