Semi secchi di Capsicum annuum var. G4 sono stati esposti a diverse dosi di raggi gamma 10-60 kR con un intervallo di dose di 10kR e le piante sono state testate per la loro radiosensibilità. Lo studio ha rivelato che la germinazione percentuale, la sopravvivenza delle piantine, la colorabilità del polline e l'allegagione dei semi hanno mostrato una riduzione graduale con un corrispondente aumento della dose di radiazioni nelle progenie della generazione M1. Alle dosi di 50 e 60 kR è stata registrata una mortalità delle piantine e una scarsa germinazione nella generazione M1. I dati sono stati analizzati per i parametri di cui sopra anche per le progenie M2 e la stessa tendenza è stata rilevata attraverso i valori relativamente più alti in M2 rispetto alla generazione M1. Piantine anomale, come piantine gemelle, cotiledoni tripli, cotiledoni bilobati, cotiledoni spessi e di colore verde scuro, erano presenti nella progenie M1 in una bassa percentuale e sono morte dopo due settimane. Morfologicamente alcune piante delle linee trattate erano deboli, con crescita stentata, fiori a fioritura tardiva con apertura irregolare e frutti più piccoli rispetto al controllo. Il controllo citologico di queste piante ha rivelato che si trattava di appiccicosità cromosomica e di raggruppamento. Ciò è probabilmente dovuto all'azione del gene o dei geni che controllano la vischiosità.
