He has served as an advisor to the National Science Foundation, a research fellow at both the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and the Harvard Center for International Affairs, and recently was part of a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) design team working on the potential for artificial offshore islands off the east coast of the U.S.
