This book addresses the progress and future directions for India to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. To realise the 2030 Agenda, progress needs to be made at a quicker pace such that it can make a real difference in people’s lives across the nation. The chapters in the book attempted to cover some of the UN SDGsincluding Zero Hunger,Good Health and Well-being, Quality Education, Clean Water and Sanitation, Climate Actionand Reduced Inequality. Recent reports on SDGs shows that India is falling short ofmost of the targets set under 17-SDGs. This book makes an attempt to deal with the factors thatcontributed to the enhanced magnitude of the issue, the imbalances caused in the society, and themeasures to get hold of SDGs. This book will be a valuable resource for researchers, scholars working in the field of SDGs and readers can gain in-depth understanding on various dimensions in sustainable transitions of India.
Dr. J.V. Arun, Assistant Professor of Economics at Government Arts College for Men (A), Nandanam, Chennai. He has fourteen years of teaching and research experiences. His research interest includes health and development economics. His PhD work is related to utilization of health care services and household health expenditure. He has good number of publications in reputed journals and books including Springer, Scopus-indexed, and UGC CARE listed. Further, he has edited a book titled COVID-19 in Tamil Nadu: Repercussions and the Avenues Ahead. He has carried out a research project, related to urban sanitation, funded by Tamil Nadu State Council for Higher Education (TANSCHE). Apart from that, he has an ongoing major research project on climate change funded by Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR). Moreover, he has organized national level seminar on COVID-19 crisis and SDGs in India sponsored by ICSSR-SRC, Hyderabad. Also, he has been resourceful in various national and international economic forums by presenting research papers, and delivering invited lectures an special addresses. Articles written by him has appeared in leading Tamil newspapers and magazines. Mr. A. Premkumar, PhD Research Scholar of Economics at Sacred Heart College (Autonomous), Tirupattur, Tamil Nadu. He has worked in various research projectsin the Centre for Ecological Economics and Natural Resources (CEENR), Institute for Social and Economic Change (ISEC), Bangalore. The projects titled Carbon Footprint and changing lifestyles of Indian Householdsfunded by Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ-International Cooperation) and Climate Smart Livelihood and Socio-ecological Development of Biodiversity Hotspots of India funded by Technology Information, Forecasting and Assessment Council (TIFAC), Government of India. He has written and published good number of articles in Scopus indexed, UGC Care listed journals and chapters in edited books published by Springer Nature in the area of Environment and Health. He also received doctoral fellowship from University Grants Commission (UGC), Government of India for his research.
