About The Author

About the Author Working her way through college as an instructional aide in a state run childcare center, Kris achieved her goal of becoming a preschool teacher. She taught in a variety of settings, from private and school district run preschools, to the federal Head Start (HS) and Early Head Start (EHS) programs for low income families. After twenty plus years of continuing education and teaching, she became an education specialist and then director in a large inner city EHS and HS program. During her forty year career, Kris was privileged to learn and instruct both teaching staff and parents in the most current research-based theories of positive adult-child interactions, in hundreds of classrooms and family homes. These rich and intimate experiences, along with raising two sons of her own, provided an authentic, real world perspective on which parenting techniques worked and which didn't. During the past ten years Kris learned everything she possibly could about natural horsemanship from both the "horse-whisperers" and from the horses themselves. The unexpected, but happy marriage of teaching and horsemanship revealed the principles of adult-child interaction that Kris had observed missing in parenting and parenting education. Take the Reins!
