Diese überraschenden Züge sind in allen seinen Konstruktionen zu finden, besonders in seinen Endspielen. Das riskante Kombinationsspiel gab Weiss die Möglichkeit zu genialen Kunststücken. Wo ist der Spieler, der sich heute noch traut, Weiss-Eröffnungen zu spielen, seit das Monster der Theorie das Spiel in Besitz genommen hat? Vergleicht man Weiss-Partien von vor mehr als 100 Jahren mit dem aktuellen Positionsspiel, sieht man, was gewonnen, aber auch was verloren wurde. Bei ersterem überwiegt die Romantik, letzteres ist ein Produkt des Studiums, oft trocken und nur für den Eingeweihten verständlich.
