Dieses Buch soll einen ersten überblick über die Theorien Tal- cott Parsons' verschaffen. (Dieser Band stellt also eine Ergän- zung der beiden früheren Einführungstexte des Verfassers dar; vgl. JEN8EN 1976 und 1980.) Diese bescheidene Zielsetzung und der geringe Umfang dieses Bandes schränken die Auseinanderset- zung mit Parsons von vornherein auf eine Wiedergabe derjenigen Theorie-Elemente ein, die der Verfasser für die wichtigsten hält. Betrachtet man den beeindruckenden Umfang von Parsons' Werk, so liegt in dieser Zielsetzung und der Kapazität dieses Buches eine sehr tiefgreifende Einschränkung, über die sich jeder Leser klar sein mu . Talcott Parsons wurde 1902 in Colorado geboren; er starb 1978 in München. Dazwischen liegt eine kontinuierliche wissenschaft- liche Arbeit über einen Zeitraum von 40 Jahren hinweg, die im Jahre 1938 mit dem ersten gro en Werk über die 8tructure of - cial Action eröffnet wurde und 1978 mit dem letzten gro en Es- say über die "Human Condition" endete. Die bibliographischen Nachweise am Ende des letzten Essay-Bandes, Action Theory and the Human Condition, umfassen mehr als 200 Veröffentlichungen. Bei genauer Betrachtung zeigen sich darin zahlreiche Wiederho- lungen und Nachdrucke; auch handelt es sich nur bei einern Teil der Veröffentlichungen um Buchpublikationen, während die Mehr- zahl von Zeitschriftenartikeln oder anderen kürzeren Beiträgen gebildet wird. Dennoch dürfte es nur wenige Wissenschaftler ge- ben, die eine solche kontinuierliche Folge von Arbeiten publi- ziert haben wie Parsons und die darin in derselben stetigen Weise ein umfassendes Theoriegebäude konstruiert haben.
