Bereits die bisher vorgenommenen Untersuchungen zu den Veranderungen auf unserem Planeten lieBen erkennen, daB die gesamte Erde als "Tatort" zu betrachten ist. Die Erfassungsmethoden fUr die Umweltveranderungen wurden laufend verfei- nert, aber das AusmaB und die Geschwindigkeit der Veranderungen haben sich kaum verringert. Zu viele, im einzelnen vielleicht unscheinbare Einzeltaten summieren sich zu den inzwischen untibersehbaren globalen Folgen. GroBe Hoffnungen werden nun z. B. an die neue Weltklimakonvention ge- kntipft. Doch was kann der einzelne zur Verbesserung der Situation beitragen? Wir denken, nur wenn jeder einzelne bei sich anfangt, in seiner unmittelbaren Umgebung, in seinem personlichen Verantwortungsbereich alles Handeln kri- tisch zu prtifen und auf umweltschadigende Handlungen weitgehend zu ver- zichten, kann es gelingen, die Folgen zu begrenzen.
