Jeffrey S. Beaudry, Ph.D. is an associate professor in the Department of Professional Education at USM. Prior to joining the faculty there he was on the Mathematics, Science, and Technology Standards Design Team in Corvallis, Oregon. In this position he developed district content standards and coordinated professional development for implementing standards. From 1992-1994 Jeff was Senior Program Evaluator at the Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory (NWREL) for the Regional Eisenhower Science and Mathematics Program for Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington.

His teaching career began as an assistant professor at St. John's University in the Educational Leadership doctoral program. While there Jeff taught basic and advanced statistics and research design and program evaluation courses to Master's and Doctoral students. He also worked on numerous research projects and doctoral committees as the research design specialist. As a member of collaborative teams he published research articles with colleagues like Richard Sinatra in literacy development, James Campbell in parental influences on student achievement, and Rita and Ken Dunn in the areas of learning styles.

Jeff arrived at USM with several professional goals: 1) provide a Master's Program supported by distance learning technology, 2) work as a staff member in the Center for Educational Policy, Applied Research and Education (CEPARE), and 3) design and teach a course in testing and assessment for the Educational Leadership Program. As a Senior Evaluator for CEPARE he collaborated with staff to develop the first three editions of the data book, The Condition of K-12 Education in Maine. Since 1998 he has devoted his evaluation work to the Maine Mathematics and Science Alliance (MMSA).

In 1996 Jeff offered the first course in Testing and Assessment in the Educational Leadership Program. Since then he has focused his professional teaching and research efforts on developing teachers' knowledge and skills in this area. He is a member of the Technical Advisory Committee for the Comprehensive Assessment System of Maine. He has made numerous presentations at the American Educational Research Association and the New England Educational Research Organization on topics relating to classroom assessment practices. To further the work in classroom assessment research, Jeff coordinated a long-term Libra Scholar appointment for Richard Stiggins at USM. A highlight of the Fall, 1998 Libra Program was the state-wide conference on assessment attended by over 350 teachers and administrators. Since that time three follow-up conferences on assessment were held 2000, 2002, and 2004.

Anita Stewart McCafferty comes to USM from the ranks of public school leadership; most recently, she was the principal of Reeds Brook Middle School in Hampden, Maine. Prior to that, she was an assistant principal and athletic director at Mattanawcook Junior High School in Lincoln, Maine. Anita spent fifteen years teaching in and leading middle schools and is passionate about creating dynamic environments in which young adolescents, their educators, and the community at large collaborate to solve authentic community problems while learning rigorous, meaningful curriculum. She advocates providing ample opportunities for both students and staff to participate in and develop leadership skills; her doctoral research examines the impacts of high-quality service learning upon students, educators, and community partners.

Anita has served as an adjunct instructor at the University of Maine in Orono and at Kennebec Valley Community College, along with teaching numerous courses, trainings, and workshops for educators regionally and across Maine.

Her research interests center around professional development, service learning, and standards-based education.
