In den Sozialwissenschaften werden drei Datenerhebungsverfah- ren unterschieden: das Interview bzw. die Befragung, die In- halts- bzw. Dokumentenanalyse und die Beobachtung. Es ist nun das Ziel dieses Skriptums, den Studenten der einzelnen sozial- wissenschaftlichen Disziplinen eine Einführung in die Probleme zu geben, die bei der Arbeit mit dem Datenerhebungsinstrument "Beobachtung" auftauchen können. Es soll damit auch gleichzei- tig ein erster tiberblick über die zu diesem Thema relevante Literatur gegeben werden, wodurch eine gezieltere Beschäfti- gung mit diesem Verfahren ermöglicht werden soll. Es konnten im Rahmen dieser Arbeit nicht alle Probleme in der sicher notwendigen Breite behandelt werden, soda diejenigen, die an einer Vertiefung dieses Stoffes interessiert sind und die vor der empirischen Feldarbeit mit diesem Verfahren stehe sich aus der Vielzahl der hier angebotenen Literatur das not- wendige "Rüstzeug" holen können. Wir möchten aber schon hier darauf hinweisen, da besonders die Beobachtung in der prakti- schen Feldarbeit eine Reihe von Problemen aufwirft, die sich gerade nicht mit "Patentrezepten" lösen lassen. In diesem Sinn kann und soll auch dieses Skriptum nicht als eine Art "Koch- buch" für Beobachtungsverfahren verstanden werden. Durch die Darstellung der Probleme soll vielmehr versucht werden, die einzelnen Vorgehensweisen wissenschaftlicher Beobachtung auf- einander zu beziehen und ihre theoretischen Grundlagen etwas zu erhellen.
