Die philosophische Beschaftigung mit der Technik ist vergleichs- weise jtingeren Datums: Ihre ersten Ansatze reichen kaum hundert Jahre zurlick - im Vergleich mit den seit der Antike durchge- haltenen philosophischen Reflexionen, etwa liber das wahre Wis- sen, die Natur und die Gesellschaft, ein ausgesprochen kurzer Zeitraum. Inzwischen sind unter spekulativer, sozialkritischer und empiristischer Akzentsetzung unterschiedliche Ansatze zur Technikphilosophie vorgelegt worden. Doch ist der Gegensatz zwischen der praktischen Lebensbedeutung der Technik und ihrer vergleichsweise geringfligigen philosophischen Aufarbeitung nach wie vor unverkennbar. Die komplexe Struktur der modernen Technik hat zur Folge, daB sehr verschiedenartige philosophische Zugange gewahlt werden kennen, die von theoretischen, metaphysischen Deutungen bis hin zu praktischen Fragen der politischen Willensbildung rei- chen. Es ist nur natlirlich, daB die philosophische Diskussion innerhalb des dadurch vorgezeichneten allgemeinen Rahmens spe- zifische nationale Schwerpunkte aufweist, die gepragt sind durch bestimmte philosophische Traditionen (Pragmatismus, Meta- physik) und die jeweils im Vordergrund des Interesses stehen- den aktuellen Probleme. Trotzdem erfordern die weltweite Aus- breitung der Technik, ihr Vordringen in alle Bereiche des indi- viduellen, sozialen und kulturellen Lebens und die dadurch aufgeworfenen schwerwiegenden Probleme liber spezifische Sprach- grenzen hinweg eine gemeinsame philosophische Behandlung. Die Uberwindung solcher sprachlicher und kultureller Schranken bei der philosophischen Aus"eipandersetzung mit der Technik It, ., '! L . . . "'e . . . . e stellt also ein echtes Desiderat dar. VII Die vorliegenden Aufsatze sind das Ergebnis des deutsch-ameri- kanischen Kolloquiums zur Technikphilosophie, das vom 7. - 11. April 1981 in der Werner-Reimers-Stiftung in Bad Hornburg statt- gefunden hat.
