Nach einer Pause von fiinf Jahren lassen wir wiederum einen Band unserer Technisch-wissenschaftlichen Abhandlungen erscheinen. Er solI einen Uberblick geben iiber die in den Laboratorien unserer Forschungs- und Entwicklungs- abteilungen ausgefiihrten Arbeiten, die einen groBeren Kreis von Interessenten finden diirften. Die schon im letzten Band begonnene Tendenz, den Anteil an Originalbeitragen gegeniiber Nachdrucken bereits veroffentlichter Arbeiten zu erhOhen, fand den Beifall vieler Fachkollegen und wird daher fortgesetzt. Dem- gemaB besteht der vorliegende Band zu rund drei Vierteln aus Originalarbeiten. Am 17. April 1959 verstarb vollig unerwartet, mitten in verantwortungsreicher und aufopfernder Arbeit stehend, der Herausgeber des 7. Bandes, Professor Dr. WILFRIED MEYER. Besonders die Forschungs- und Entwicklungsabteilungen des Hauses Osram erlitten durch den Tod ihres langjahrigen Leiters einen schweren Verlust. Seiner Tatkraft und seinem personlichen Einsatz verdanken wir zum wesentlichen Teil den Wiederaufbau dieser Abteilungen nach dem Kriege. Eine groBe Anzahl der hier mitgeteilten Arbeiten ist auf seine Anregung hin und mit seiner Forderung entstanden, und seine grundlegenden Untersuchungen iiber Halbleiter finden in einigen Beitragen ihre Fortsetzung. Sein Andenken wird bei allen, die unter seiner Leitung tatig waren, stets lebendig bleiben. Wir hoften, daB der vorliegende Band eine niitzliche Erganzung der bereits erschienenen Bande sein wird, und daB er die gleiche wohlwollende Aufnahme finden moge wie die vorhergehenden.
