Band die Wandlung, die die Technik der Lichterzeugung in den letzten fast 30 Jahren erfahren hat. 1m ersten Band hatten nur vier Arbeiten die Gasent- ladung und ihre Probleme zum Gegenstand; der vorliegende behandelt dieses Gebiet auf breiter Grundlage. Eine Reihe anderer Arbeiten erfaBt weite Bereiche der Festkorperphysik. Theoretische und experimentelle Physik der Gasentladung, Schaltungstechnik der Entladungslampen, Emissions- und Halbleiterfragen, Leuchtstoff-, Glas- und Metallforschung, MeJ3technik sowie Analytische Chemie und Mathematische Statistik konnten als Hauptthemen des vorliegenden Buches genannt werden. Entwicklungsarbeiten an den Hochleistungsmaschinen fUr die Gluhlampen- fertigung werden nicht beschrieben; Arbeiten fUr die Gluhlampe sind enthalten in den Beitragen uber Glas- und l\: Ietallforschung, MeJ3technik, Analytische Chemie und Mathematische Statistik. In der Gesamtzahl der Arbeiten steht der vorliegende Band den beiden letzten Vorkriegsbanden und dem wahrend des Krieges erschienenen 5. Band nicht nacho Mehr als zwei Drittel aller Arbeiten - weit mehr als in jedem der fruheren Bande - sind Originalarbeiten.
