Technische Zivilisation Zur Wiederaufnahme eines klassischen Topos lost Halfmann Die Beschreibung der modernen Gesellschaft als "technische Zivilisation" kann auf eine mehr als hundertjährige Geschichte zurückblicken, aber sie hat immer noch nicht an Aktualität verloren. Autoren der verschiedensten dis- ziplinären und politischen Provenienz verwenden diese Formel, um einen Zugriff auf Kernzüge der modernen Gesellschaft zu gewinnen. Die Konnota- tionen dieser Formel haben sich sicher geändert. Wurde im 19. Jahrhundert "technische Zivilisation" zum Signum eines unaufhaltsamen Fortschritts des industriellen Kapitalismus, der die Menschen zum Guten oder Schlechten in den Sog seiner Dynamik zieht, so wird heute mit "technischer Zivilisation" eher exzessiver Naturverbrauch assoziiert, der die Rückseiten der industriel- len Produktionsweise anzeigt. Immer aber wird "technische Zivilisation" mit einer "Dialektik", der Verbindung von zwei konfliktorischen evolutionären Triebkräften in Verbindung gebracht: Technik wirkt als Katalysator des Mensch-Natur-Verhältnisses, der zugleich eine Humanisierung der Natur und eine Naturalisierung des Menschen auslöst. Die empirische und philosophische Anthropologie arbeitet mit der Prä- misse, da Technik am Anfang der "Zivilisierung" des Menschen stehe, da Technik eine entscheidende Rolle bei der Herausbildung gesellschaftlicher Infrastrukturen gespielt habe und weiter spiele. Der Einsatz von Technik ver- wandelt "natürliche" in "künstliche" Natur, er unterwirft die Natur der menschlichen Willkür, und die in Technik eingebauten Verselbständigungs- impulse zwingen zugleich die Menschen unter die technische Rationalität, die zuweilen als Rache der Natur an ihrer Überwältigung durch den Men- schen gedeutet werden.
