Behandelt wird die Kernmaterie bei hohen Temperaturen und die Rolle von Kern- und Teilchenphysik bei astrophysikalischen Vorgängen. Die neuesten Entwicklungen in der Neutrinophysik werden dargestellt.

Die Autoren waren bzw. sind Wissenschaftler am Max-Planck-Institut für Kernphysik in Heidelberg.

Bogdan Povh, geboren 1932, wirkte seit 1965 als Professor an der Universität Heidelberg und zusätzlich von 1975 bis zu seiner Emeritierung im Jahr 2000 als Direktor am MPI für Kernphysik;

Klaus Rith, geboren 1942, war von 1985 bis 1992 dort Gruppenleiter und von 1992 bis 2008 Professor und Inhaber des Lehrstuhls für Physik an der Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg;

Christoph Scholz, geb. 1960, ist seit 1994 Development Architect bei der SAP AG;

Frank Zetsche, geb. 1959, war von 1992 bis 1999 Wissenschaftler an der Universität Hamburg und am DESY und ist Head of Architecture Management bei DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH;

Werner Rodejohann, geb. 1972, ist seit 2006 Wissenschaftler am MPI für Kernphysik und seit 2008 dort Gruppenleiter.
