Wie schon damals angedeutet, ist die Losung der Aufgabe des nicht stationaren Problems mathematisch nicht mehr so einfach, weil das Auftreten von zwei Veranderlichen auf rartielle Differentialgleichungen fiihrt. lch nehme jedoch an, daB die Art der Behandlung des Stoffes im vorliegenden Bnch einem wissenschaftlich gebildeten und selbstandig denkenden Ingenienr, wenn er sich auch sonst im allgemeinen mehr an die unmittel- bar praktisch verwendbaren Ergebnisse halten mag, keine groBen Schwierigkeiten bereiten wird. Die mathematische Behandlung der atomaren Energienmsetzungen stellt ja heute noch groBere Anspriiche an das wissenschaftliche Denken des Ingenieurs. Immerhin sind in dem vorliegenden Buch durch eine verhaltnismai3ig nicht zu groBe Anzahl von Tabellen und Kurventafeln viele Verstandesbriicken zwi- schen reiner Wissenschaft nnd Praxis geschlagen, so daB auch der reine Praktiker nach knrzem Studium den Inhalt des Bandes mit Erfolg benntzen kann. Es ware wohl nicht moglich gewesen, die Kurven- darstellung in so kurzer Zeit oder iiberhaupt rechnerisch durchzufiihren, wenn dem Bearbeiter nicht die Rechenhilfsmittel des Instituts fUr Praktische Mathematik (lPM) der Technischen Hochschule Darmstadt bei Herrn Professor Dr. A. WALTHER zur Verfiigung gestanden hatten, er selbst ihn nicht mit Rat und Tat unterstiitzt hatte, und wenn nicht die Max-Buchner-Forschnngsstiftung, der Hessische Minister fi'tr Arbeit, Wirtschaft und Verkehr sowie das Battelle-lnstitut fUr Deutschland die Arbeiten des Verfassers groBziigig finanziert hatten.
