Susan Hansen's Ten Real Tools Support Group Facilitator's Manual contains everything a group leader needs to facilitate a 10-week support group for students or clients ages 12 to adult. The manual includes step-by-step activities, detailed lesson plans, handouts, support group guidelines, tips for effective group facilitation, a sample group flyer and parent permission slip, and ASCA standards for those who are facilitating a school-based support group. Also included are optional practice activities for continuing the group beyond 10 weeks, and a detailed post-test key to measure learning outcomes.

The group sessions focus on self-awareness, coping skills, and communication skills, and they include information on the following topics: I Statements, Check-In, Defenses, What's Under Anger, Supportive Feedback, Defusing the Rage Bomb, Communication Styles, Setting Healthy Boundaries, The Drama Triangle, and Healthy Outlets for Anger and Stress.

For those who already own Susan's earlier resource book, Tools for Your Emotional Health Toolbox, this manual includes updated lesson plans, objectives, standards, handouts, and an easier-to-read font for all materials.

Susan Hansen, M.S., has worked in counseling, intervention, and education in Phoenix, Arizona, since 1986. She was an intervention specialist in the Peoria Unified School District for six years, previously worked with adolescents at West Valley Camelback Hospital, and taught high school English, drama, and creative writing in the public schools. Susan has facilitated support groups in various settings for many years, and she provides training for group facilitators. She taught graduate courses in school counseling at Ottawa University in Phoenix for 20 years, and she is currently in private practice, working with adolescents, adults, and families.
