La Teor�a de la Identidad Social (TIS) de Henri Tajfel ofrece un marco fundamental para esta comprensi�n, al enfatizar que una parte significativa del autoconcepto surge de la pertenencia a un grupo. Desarrollada en las d�cadas de 1970 y 1980 mediante rigurosos estudios emp�ricos, la TIS cuestiona la noci�n de que el sesgo y la discriminaci�n intergrupal sean �nicamente producto de la animosidad personal. En cambio, resalta los procesos psicol�gicos a trav�s de los cuales los individuos buscan una identidad social positiva, a menudo favoreciendo a su propio grupo y diferenciando o incluso denigrando a los grupos externos.
Las ideas de Tajfel surgieron como respuesta a apremiantes problemas sociales, como la persistencia de los prejuicios, los estereotipos y los conflictos intergrupales. Al centrarse en la din�mica de la categorizaci�n, la identificaci�n y la comparaci�n, la Teor�a de la Identidad Social (TIS) explica por qu� las personas comunes pueden adoptar comportamientos aparentemente irracionales u hostiles hacia quienes no pertenecen a su grupo social.
