Su contenido no pretende ser novedoso en relación al resto de publicaciones sobre la música moderna, pero si tenemos en cuenta el panorama bibliográfico actual; la mayoría de los temas aquí tratados sólo se encuentran en publicaciones no traducidas al castellano, utilizando fórmulas complejas, difíciles de asimilar y de llevar a la práctica. También es habitual encontrarnos con una falta de consenso en cuanto a terminología, ya que los mismos conceptos pueden aparecer con gran variedad de nomenclaturas. De estos hechos, surge con fuerza la necesidad de contar con una publicación en español donde no sólo se unifiquen términos, sino que también se traten temas de armonía, rearmonización, arreglos, orquestación e improvisación sintetizados y expuestos de un modo práctico y cómodo para el uso de los estudiosos de la música. En cuanto a la estructuración de contenidos, encontramos aquí tres amplias secciones. La primera trata la armonía junto a la rearmonización, separando los elementos más básicos de los avanzados. El hecho de exponer ambos conceptos de manera conjunta facilita en gran medida una mejor compresión y asimilación de los contenidos, tan relacionados e interconectados entre sí. No obstante, no entraremos en términos de lenguaje musical básico (como es la descripción de intervalos, compases, etcétera), ya que contamos con diversas publicaciones en castellano al respecto. La segunda parte se centra en las técnicas de arreglos y orquestación. Por el mismo motivo, tampoco veremos aquí aspectos básicos como los registros de cada instrumento, etc. sino que daremos una secuencia de técnicas variadas sobre conducción de voces, instrumentación y otros elementos a tener en cuenta en la escritura musical. Por último, abordaremos la improvisación desde el punto de vista de la armonía y la rearmonización expuesto al comienzo. Se aconseja por tanto la lectura previa de las dos primeras secciones, ya que en ellas se exponen los elementos que aquí se llevarán a la práctica.
