La ACT asienta sus fundamentos te�ricos en el contextualismo funcional y en la teor�a del marco relacional, lo que implica un cambio radical en la consideraci�n de los elementos del comportamiento humano, que ya no son analizados en su particular individualidad sino en cuanto elementos que forman parte del contexto en el que tiene lugar la propia conducta.En el �mbito de la pr�ctica terap�utica, su aportaci�n fundamental es la despatologizaci�n de la experiencia humana. Vivir no es una enfermedad, por dura que sea la realidad; lo verdaderamente patol�gico consiste en renunciar a las propias vivencias y experiencias vitales, la evitaci�n vivencial. De este modo, la ACT se convierte en una invitaci�n a la vida, a la realizaci�n personal a trav�s de la propia trayectoria vital.Su objetivo terap�utico es el desarrollo de la flexibilidad psicol�gica a la que est�n enfocadas las distintas t�cnicas y herramientas recogidas en este manual.
