That Little Coker Boy is a collection of autobiographical story poems told from the viewpoint of a child growing up in a small town and rural community of Texas during a time of historic change, the 1940s, '50s and '60s. She reveals to readers her own perception and insight of the era in which she lives-- sometimes sad, sometimes humorous-- but reflective of the times.

Laurie Coker is a native Texan who has lived in Austin most of her adult life where she currently resides. A graduate of Austin College, Sherman, Texas, she received a BA in Art in 1966. She has written poems and stories since childhood. She studied film acting with Charles Conrad in Los Angeles and with Dan Fauci and Van Brooks in Austin. She performs in film, commercials, voiceover and on the stage. As a single parent she supported her three children by working at various jobs -- secretary, book reviewer, draftsperson, public health promotion specialist, paper "boy" and teacher. A collection of her short stories, Tattersall, was published in 2012 and a collection of poems, School Daze, Poems of a Substitute Teacher, in 2013. After retiring from the Texas Department of State Health Services in 2013, she continues to teach, illustrate, act and write.
