The Apostles is a book written by French philosopher and historian Ernest Renan, first published in 1866. It is a historical and critical study of the lives and teachings of the twelve apostles of Jesus Christ, as well as other prominent figures in early Christianity, such as Paul and James. Renan's approach to the subject matter is both scholarly and imaginative, as he draws on a wide range of sources, including the Bible, apocryphal texts, and historical documents, to reconstruct the lives and personalities of the apostles.
