J. Middleton Macdonald (1857–1961) was a prominent Scottish-born Australian Presbyterian minister, missionary, and author. He played a key role in the expansion of the Presbyterian Church in Australia and was deeply involved in missionary work, particularly among Indigenous Australians and in the Pacific region. Known for his strong advocacy of social justice and Christian education, Macdonald wrote extensively on theology and mission. His work left a lasting legacy in both church and community life. Living to 104, he witnessed and influenced significant religious and social changes over a century, becoming a respected elder statesman of the Australian Presbyterian tradition.
