In showing the role that context plays in interpretation, these chapters demonstrate a contextual hermeneutics that brings familiar biblical texts to life in new and important ways.

Walter Dietrich is professor of Old Testament at the University of Bern in Switzerland.

Ulrich Luz (1938-2019) was a New Testament scholar from Switzerland. He was also the author of The Theology of Matthew, Matthew in History, and the three-volume commentary on Matthew in the Hermeneia series.
