The Book of Elxai is a religious text that was allegedly discovered in the 16th century by a Spanish monk named Alfonso de la Vera Cruz. The book claims to be the teachings of a group of Jewish-Christian heretics known as the Elcesaites, who lived in the 2nd century AD. The Elcesaites believed in a form of Gnosticism that combined Jewish and Christian elements, and their teachings are said to have influenced later Gnostic sects.The Book of Elxai is divided into three parts. The first part contains a series of prayers and hymns, some of which are addressed to a divine figure called Elxai. The second part describes a series of rituals and initiations that members of the Elcesaite community would undergo.
