Jim Lyon is a private Investigator who has a penchant for finding trouble. More often than not, his troubles result from trying to help his friends. In this case, he found more trouble than any man should have to face. He finds himself matching wits with a serial killer called The Butcher. Jim was ambivalent about The Butcher, being willing to leave that matter to the police, until The Butcher starts killing his friends. That made the killer's actions personal. The detective develops a computer program that allows shim to predict when the killer will strike again. The matching of wits takes on a more threatening aspect when the killer realizes he has a nemesis and accepts the challenge. However, the killer raises the stakes in the game by targeting Jim's friends. Three of his friends, Meg, Susan, and Flame are attacked by the madman, who has some decidedly supernatural capabilities. They each fight for survival in their own style as The Butcher is bent upon taking Jim's friends away from him. The detective is forced to use his wits and weapons to protect his friends and himself from a madman who grows bolder with each murder. While Jim can predict when the madman will strike, he must figure out how he travels through the city without being seen and how he can so easily escape capture.

Ronald Goulden has written novels and stories for thirty years. He originally studied Biological Sciences in college before being drafted by the Army to serve as a Vietnamese linguist. During the course of those duties, he served with several of the 'alphabet' security organizations. He quickly adapts to new cultures and sees a story or an adventure everywhere. All of his novels and stories have interconnecting threads that link them into a larger universe, spanning space and time. Some of the links are obvious, while others are very subtle. Returning from Viet Nam, he learned computer programming and has worked at all levels of the Information Technology industry for more than thirty years. He spent much of his professional career in Wichita, KS, the location for The Butcher and the Flame novel, among others. He lived in Wichita during the time of the BTK killer and actually wrote a computer program that allowed him to 'predict' when the BTK would strike again. He provided the results to the Wichita Police Department, but they discarded the idea. He did achieve a 72% success rate at predicting the next probable time the BTK would strike. This provided the premise for The Prediction. Some of the events in the stories are based on real life, while others are pure fiction. The distinction between fact and fiction is up to the reader. I am happily married and currently living in Memphis, TN.
